I did what I always do to get better. I stopped writing and analyzing and made myself busy with travel and work and worrying about other things.
I went to Chicago and fell in love with the city again and with a new friend for the first time. I ate my way across the city and slept so little and laughed so much, I was delirious by the time our plane touched down in Kansas City on Monday afternoon.
I am on the verge of very big, very good things. I am entering a series of endings and beginnings, and I am starting to feel like I am me again. Or maybe a new me I sort of thought I was capable of being, but wasn't sure that I was. But now I know. I know and I am and I am, for once, letting myself be happy and proud and whole.
This weekend, we are going to see Ben Folds at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa. We will snuggle and yell and sing along and remember how far we've come in only four years. And then we will curl up that night and talk of our future together and how bright and wonderful it will surely be, and how the bad times that will come will be easier because of the hard times that have passed, and how the good times will be even better because of all we have weathered.
And we will be better. Together.
